Surprise Project Update

Do you remember this minkie fabric that I picked up while I was in Australia?  I crafted it into something last night.  It was AONW.  Sorry, you only get partial pics at this point because it turned into a gift for a someone and I don't want to ruin the surprise.  I had to post something so that you don't think that I'm totally slacking off with respect to my crafting!

I will be away for a few days.  I'm off to climb Mount St. Helens and then to tour Portland, OR with the Crafting Widower and my parents.

AONW - Tooth fairy doll

Another one night wonder (AONW).  It's been so long.

I stopped by Chapters/Indigo books with the Crafting Widower last night.  Once we got in, I made a beeline for the knitting/craft section.  Good news.  I found some inspiration.  Enough to get me to haul out my sewing machine, start and complete a project in a couple of hours.

I decided to give the tooth fairy doll a another try.

Well, here she is:
She's still nameless.

Do you remember my first attempt with "Scary Glenda"?

Does she need some wings?

AONW - Market Bag

I couldn't disappoint...I've whipped up "Another One Night Wonder" (AONW) the night before heading off on a long weekend...ok...the wee hours of the morning before having to catch my flight.

I had some lovely vintage floral fabric, and I managed to pick up some not-so-bad coordinating fabric today at the thrifts.  I decided to try to make a funky market bag in cheery yellow.

Here's my pattern sketch.

And the work in progress.

And the finished product.

What I'm really happy with:
- I'm very pleased with my finishing.  I tried my first French Seam where the two different fabrics of the bag are sewn together and I also covered the raw edges of the side seams with fabric scraps.  It looks really good on the inside, for a non-lined bag, if I do say so myself.

What I might change:
- Possibly make it narrower next time.
- Make a 'stash bag' or add a cord to tie it up and tuck it away in my purse when I'm not using it.  I could always add that next week.

Time to sign off...only 5 hours until I have to wake up & dash to the airport!  I'll take my new market bag with me on my trip to test it out.

AONW - Rate the craft

I decided to whip up AONW tonight.  I was motivated for a couple of reasons:

1) I belong to a "colour club" at work.  I don't know how/why I was foolish enough to join the club...and now I can't be the first to drop out.  Anyway, the short version - it all started when two girls happened to wear the same colour to the office. Now each day a colour is drawn to help determine what to wear the next day.  Tomorrow is yellow day.  Crap.  I don't wear yellow.  Last time we had "yellow day", I wore a necklace with some yellow beads and carried around a yellow mug.  Apparently that didn't cut it.  I stopped by the thrift store on the way home today and picked up a yellow shirt...but it isn't the greatest.

2) I've been meaning to try making a fabric covered button for awhile.  And I saw some cool flowers on one of Heather Bailey's blog posts - so, I figured that I'd give it a go...make a yellow coloured brooch, test out the button maker, and use some felt flowers that I got as a 'gift' from one of my Etsy suppliers.

This is the result from my 1 hour of crafting.
Ok, it might be reading more pink/purple than yellow...the "colour club" rules are pretty loose.

The Crafting Widower wasn't too impressed.  What do you think?  Totally ugly?  Does it look like an agricultural fair award, gone bad?

So, give me some feedback on my newest creation.  Be honest.  Don't worry, I'm not going to wear it tomorrow.  I think I'll be wearing the yellow thrift store shirt, along with my yellow beaded necklace.  I don't have the yellow mug anymore - it went to the thrifts when I was decluttering my life!

AONW - Snack Bag (and free giveaway)

I sewed up Another One Night Wonder (AONW) tonight.  I whipped up a little snack bag for my veggies.

I bought some cute babushka PUL (polyurethane laminate) fabric and black rip-stop fabric for the lining.   It has a black velcro closure along the top.

It's not without it's flaws...you'll see in the photo below that I have a fold in the pink PUL, and I think that I'll use pink thread next time.

But otherwise I'm quite pleased.  I'll have to test it out to see if I like using the rip-stop as the lining.

And now for my first free giveaway.  I will gift a set (snack bag and sandwich bag) to the first person who comments to this post - I'll try my best to fix the flaws I mentioned in the post, plus any other suggestions you may have.

Another "1 night wonder"

It's my friend Jessica's birthday this week.  She's a crafter too...a knitter.  So, I decided to whip up a little knitting project bag for her.

I used some really cute owl and polka-dot fabric...

...and a couple of hours later, I was finished!

I found some lovely glass beads from Ghana to add to the pulls.
(It's about 6"wide x 3"deep x 9" tall)

That's my yarn and partially finished scarf taking the project bag for a test drive.

Another 1 night wonder...it had to be since our knit-night is tomorrow!
